Award-Winning Librarian Recognized For Students Reading Achievement

January 4, 2011

February 11, 2011 | Westminster, Vermont -Kurn Hattin Homes’ librarian has received national recognition for the sixth consecutive year for outstanding support of reading education. Sally Mundell, Librarian at Kurn Hattin Homes in Westminster, VT, was awarded Reading Model Library by Renaissance Learning, a Wisconsin based company. Library certification indicates that Mundell’s efforts to support teachers have resulted in measurable improvements in student performance at New England Kurn Hattin Homes.

“Sally exemplifies the kind of commitment to the success of every student that is at the heart of effective schools,” said Judi Paul, Co-Chair of the Board at Renaissance Learning.

To receive Renaissance Library certification as a Reading Model Library, librarians must document that their practices encourage student access to a wide variety of books as well as supporting reading practice and self-directed learning. In addition, the librarian must be actively working with individual students to meet Renaissance recommended standards for reading achievement. Kurn Hattin Homes is a year-round, residential home and school for in-need and at-risk children, ages 6-15, from throughout the Northeast.
