WAYS TO GIVE:

Special Projects

Many donors wish to fund a project or special service at Kurn Hattin. These gifts are critical to sustaining the quality of programming for which we are known throughout the childcare industry. Contributions are welcome for underwriting field trips, improvements to the cottages and campus, medical care for children, clothing, library books, and more. For our wish list, please click here.

WAYS TO GIVE:

The Endowment Fund

The lifeblood of Kurn Hattin's financial stability is the endowment fund. Approximately 40% of our operating budget is funded with income from the endowment plus unrestricted additions to board designated funds. Bequests compose the majority of gifts to the endowment fund. Distributions from estates and outright donations make up the remainder. Kurn Hattin's legacy society, The Bridge Builders, as of 8/1/17, recognizes donors who make a gift of $10,000 (previously $5,000) or more to the endowment and board designated funds. These may include designated bequests, outright gifts to the endowment, naming Kurn Hattin as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, purchasing a charitable gift annuity, as well as other deferred gifts designated by the donor for the endowment.  The Bridge Builders also recognizes trusts established by donors to provide ongoing financial support to Kurn Hattin.

The Bridge Builder
by Will Allen Dromgoole
An old man, going a lone highway
Came at the evening, cold and gray,
To a chasm, vast and deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim—
That sullen stream had no fears for him,
But he turned,
When he reached the other side,
And built a bridge to span the tide.
“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,
“You are wasting your strength in building here.
Your journey will end
With the ending day;
You never again must pass this way
You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
Why build you a bridge at eventide?”
The builder lifted his old grey head,
“Good friend, in the path
I have come,” he said,
“There followeth after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm that has been naught to me
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building the bridge for him.”

WAYS TO GIVE:

Bequests and Planned Gifts

Many donors choose to name Kurn Hattin Homes as a beneficiary in their will. A percentage of assets or a specific sum are the most common bequests. Other supporters name us as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, donate real estate or antiques to Kurn Hattin, and establish charitable remainder or annuity trusts to benefit Kurn Hattin. Your individual financial status and interests determine which planned giving instrument is right for you. We encourage you to seek the advice of a financial adviser when considering these gifts. Please contact us to learn more about any of the options described above.

  • Guaranteed income for life
  • Attractive rate of return
  • Partially tax-free income
