Kurn Hattin Students and Staff Staying Connected

Kurn Hattin students may not be on campus due to Covid-19, but keeping in touch, lessons and learning continues.  Staff members from several departments including residential, admissions, school, counseling, and family outreach, have been staying in close communication with the children and their families, reaching out to them on a weekly basis to check in, offer any needed support and making sure they know that though even though we may be physically apart for the time being, we are here for them.  

Captain Richard Phillips Fundraising Event at Kurn Hattin Homes for Children- Rescheduled

The May 1st Kurn Hattin Fundraising Event to support technology upgrades and the new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) lab, featuring Captain Richard Phillips, has been postponed until October 2nd.  Captain Phillips was the center of an extraordinary international drama when he was captured by Somali pirates who attacked and boarded his ship. The event was later made into a motion picture by Columbia Pictures starring Tom Hanks.  

Kurn Hattin 2020 Jazz Invitational - CANCELED

Mark your calendars: an exciting evening of jazz is coming up soon! Join us at Kurn Hattin Homes for Children for the 13th Annual Kurn Hattin Jazz Invitational on April 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Higbie Auditorium. Master of Ceremonies for this event will be none other than the renowned Mr. Eugene Uman, Director of the Vermont Jazz Center. Ten talented Jazz ensembles will showcase their musical skills. The evening concludes with the Keene Jazz Orchestra.

Kurn Hattin Homes welcomes Ellen Wood as its new Director of Residential Services.  Ellen joins us with 27 years of experience working in various positions in all aspects of residential life at Landmark College, most recently as Resident Dean and Director of Transition Planning.

Lisa Bianconi, Director of Music at New England Kurn Hattin Homes for Children in Westminster, Vermont has been awarded the 2020 Vermont Educator of the Year Award for District VI from Vermont Music Educators Association.  

Kurn Hattin Students Shoot Straight in Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship

On Sunday, January 26, ten Kurn Hattin students competed in the regional Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship in Bellows Falls, Vermont. This contest for children, ages 9 to 14, provides an athletic outlet and encourages the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition. Competitors in different age groups attempt 15 basketball shots. Those who make the most consecutive successful shots win and move on to the state competition. Our very own fifth grader, Tegan, will be doing just that!

The Rite Aid Foundation Designates New England Kurn Hattin Homes A KidCents Charity

The Rite Aid Foundation has selected Kurn Hattin Homes to participate in its 2020 KidCents program, which annually supports a select group of nonprofit, kid-focused organizations committed to improving the health and wellbeing of children living in the communities Rite Aid serves.
