The NH/VT Council of Charitable Gift Planners offers training, support, and networking opportunities for professionals throughout the two states.

Kurn Hattin Homes Earns Coveted 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator

New England Kurn Hattin Homes for Children’s commitment to accountability and transparency has earned it the highest possible 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.  

“This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets New England Kurn Hattin Homes apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness,” stated Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “Only a quarter of rated charities have achieved this distinction!”  

Kurn Hattin Celebrates 21 Graduates

On Saturday, June 8, 2019  twenty-one 8thgraders graduated from Kurn Hattin Homes for Children in a joyous and emotional ceremony.  Graduation proceedings began with an opening welcome from Board President, Mark Bodin and an Invocation from houseparent Clint Plante.  Salutatorian Alex Lowe III, then spoke to the audience and his fellow graduating classmates asking them to “accept your mistakes instead of rejecting them, but NEVER let them define who you are.”

Kurn Hattin Homes Leadership Restructuring for Growth & Development

Kurn Hattin Homes for Children is planning for its future with leadership restructuring. To begin, Admissions Director Sue Kessler, M.Ed will take on the role of Assistant Executive Director beginning July 1. She will be overseeing direct student services which include the School, Residential Life, Counseling, Nursing, Food Services, Volunteers, and Admissions. Executive Director, Steve Harrison will continue to oversee organizational services–those that operate to support the overall organization, the operations of the campus, and the financial aspects of the Homes.  

Alumni and Guests Help Kurn Hattin Celebrate its 125th Anniversary

Over 200 guests and alumni, from the classes of 1942 to 2013, arrived at Kurn Hattin Homes on May 18th to celebrate its 125th anniversary.  

The day-long event began with a welcome to all guests by Executive Director Steve Harrison. Harrison spoke of Perseverance, Nurturance, Hope, Compassion, and a Sense of Worth—The core values that continue to guide the mission of Kurn Hattin. Harrison next introduced special guest Leslie Ann Dickinson, the great, great granddaughter of Reverend Charles Albert Dickinson, the founder of Kurn Hattin Homes. Leslie reflected on the work of Reverend Dickinson and read a letter written to friends requesting their financial help in supporting Kurn Hattin Homes and an April Fools poem Charles wrote at age 21.  

Volunteers Recognized For Generosity and Dedication

Kurn Hattin Homes for Children held its Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on May 15th to honor and thank the over 100 volunteers, including our staff, Trustees, and Incorporators, who dedicate their time, talents and energy to help care for the children.Tom Oxholm, Director of Institutional Advancement, who coordinated the lunch this year, thanked the volunteers in attendance.“Volunteers play a critical role in every aspect of Kurn Hattin,” he remarked.“We wouldn’t be the community we are without them.” 

Brattleboro Reformer: Kurn Hattin celebrates 125 years

Lyssa Jackson was 8 years old when she heard about Kurn Hattin Homes and started her personal campaign to come to the private Westminster school for kids from troubled families.

Jackson, who spent four years at Kurn Hattin, graduating in 2008, was a determined young girl seeking a solution to her troubled family life in Rochester, N.H. 

Nine Kurn Hattin Homes’ Staff Honored with Years of Service Awards

It takes a village to transform the lives the children and this year nine staff members were recognized for their dedication, hard work, and many years of service. Steve Harrison, Executive Director of Kurn Hattin Homes honored these individuals with Service Awards during the April 24th, All Staff Meeting.

1942 Farmall Model H Restored

April 17, 2019

An abandoned 1942 Farmall Model H tractor, originally used at Kurn Hattin Homes and repurchased, has been lovingly restored. A ten-year project led by Real Bazin, Director of Farm & Fleet, and assisted by the KHH maintenance department and local resident Gary Cobb, sits proudly on the front lawn of Kurn Hattin’s Mathey Center. Real reflected, "It was great that we were able to find it and bring it home.” Look for the tractor in the 4th of July Saxtons River parade.
