Ways to Give

On behalf of all the children, thank you for considering a gift to Kurn Hattin Home.  As a charitable organization, Kurn Hattin Homes depends on private support to fulfill its mission. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and your gift is tax deductible as allowed by law. Here are some ways to give:

The Annual Fund

Kurn Hattin’s Annual Fund helps support the many everyday aspects vital to running a 280-acre campus and caring for 80 children year round. Clothing, food, a cozy cottage to live in…these are just a few of the ways your Annual Fund gift helps. Make your donation online, either as a one-time or recurring donation.

Donor Advised Fund

A donor advised fund (DAF) is an excellent and tax-efficient way to give to make your charitable contribution. Simply recommend New England Kurn Hattin Homes for a grant distribution and supply our Tax ID # 03-0179306 and our address: Development Office, 708 Kurn Hattin Road, Westminster, VT 05158.  Below are a handful of links to some of the more common public charities that sponsor DAFs in our area. For more information, please contact Kim Fine, Director of Annual Fund & Special Projects, at (802) 721-6914 or kfine@kurnhattin.org

Marketable securities being transferred to Kurn Hattin as a general contribution or as an addition to the endowment fund are done through the Depository Trust System (DTC). This electronic transfer of securities is safe, fast, and easy. Please fill out the Stock Donation Form or provide the following information to your broker:

Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC DTC

  • DTC Participant #0141

The donor or sending agent should forward details of the transfer to Kurn Hattin Homes, c/o Kim Fine. Upon receipt, Kurn Hattin will advise Wells Fargo Advisors as to treatment of the gift. Feel free to contact Kim Fine, Director of Annual Fund & Special Projects, at (802) 721-6914 or kfine@kurnhattin.org if you have any questions.

IRA Charitable Rollover

For individuals age 70 ½ or older, the IRA Charitable Rollover allows you to make tax-free charitable gifts of up to $100,000 per year directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to Kurn Hattin.  These otherwise taxable distributions can satisfy your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and exclude these funds from your taxable income.  If married, your spouse can also transfer up to $100,000 from his or her IRA annually.

Here are some important benefits/considerations:

  • IRA contributions can be made to any tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization, e.g. Kurn Hattin Homes.
  • You may designate your gift as you have done in the past (unrestricted, residential program, music program, academic support, etc.)
  • Beneficial for individuals who do not, or can no longer, itemize deductions on their income tax
  • Gifts can be transferred tax-free from your IRA directly to Kurn Hattin
  • Transfers can be applied toward your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
  • Withdrawals are not subject to annual charitable deduction limitations
