Kurn Hattin Homes’ COVID-19 Response

March 19, 2020

Good morning,

I’m writing to give you an update on the status of our campus, our children, and their families during this extraordinary time.

Members of our staff have spoken with the families or guardians of all of our children over the past couple days to ensure that every one of them has a good place to be during this time. As of last evening, arrangements for every child had been made and all were settled into their temporary locations.

We were able to send bags of food and other supplies home with families and have also been able to offer grocery and gas cards to many. We will continue to do this and are arranging delivery of items when possible during this time. If we can, we’re planning to organize a set time each week for local families to be able to come to campus to pick up additional supplies and food.

In addition, every child took library books and school work with them including specific assignments to be completed. This academic work itself is very important, of course, and we hope that it also brings some sense of routine and normalcy along with a connection to KHH for everyone.

During this temporary separation, staff members from several departments including family outreach, residential, admissions, school, and counseling have been tasked with reaching out to the children and their families on a weekly basis. We will stay in close communication with them all and make sure they know that we are here for them even though we may be physically apart for the time being. As these contacts are being made, we will respond to any needs that arise.

The amazing dedication, sense of caring, and spirit of camaraderie of the entire Kurn Hattin community always shines through in countless ways and will continue to see us through these challenging circumstances. We thank you for all your support and your concern.

Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with questions at any time.

Best regards,

Sue Kessler
Assistant Executive Director
