Kurn Hattin Students and Staff are TECHNICOOL

January 30, 2012 |  Westminster, Vermont – Did you know that there is a law requiring children to be 13 years of age or older before they use or have a social networking site? Kurn Hattin students and staff learned this and much more in a recent TECHNICOOL training with Alyssa Berthiaume, of Prevent Child Abuse Vermont.

TECHNICOOL is a technology safety program and is funded by grants from Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, The Comcast Foundation, Verizon Wireless Foundation, and the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation. Like it or not, the Internet and social networking are here to stay. When used responsibly, they’re wonderful. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Trends such as cyberbullying, “sexting,” and posting too much personal information are on the rise, and concerning for youth and the adults who care for them. With accurate and up-to-date information and tech-safety practices youth and the adults who care for them can cultivate safe online environments This is a very important and informative training for all children, 4th grade and up; parents/guardians and educators; and it’s free.

For more information about TECHNICOOL email aberthiaume@pcavt.org.

Kurn Hattin Homes is a year-round, charitable home and school for in-need and at-risk boys and girls, ages 6-15, from throughout the northeast.
