All things Halloween at Kurn Hattin Homes for Children

On October 26, Harry Potter Night was a magical event that delighted everyone and was the perfect compliment to Kurn Hattin Homes’ Halloween Dance. The dining hall was transformed into the Great Hall at Hogwarts. Students sat by Houses and enjoyed a roast beef dinner while being entertained by stilt walkers and a magician. Adults and children made wands, tried their hand at Quidditch (sport played on broomsticks), and learned about snakes and our school’s python in the Chamber of Secrets.

Adopt-A-Cottage Sponsors Get Involved at Kurn Hattin

"If you could wake up tomorrow with one new talent or ability, what would it be and why?" was one of several questions both adults and children queried on Adopt-a-Cottage Sponsor Night, September 6, 2018 at Kurn Hattin Homes for Children.

Individuals, club and business members, joined their 'adopted' children's residences (cottages) for a fun icebreaker activity, a delicious dinner, and a cottage tour after having previously donated funds to supply their cottages with needed items, such as new curtains, bedding, and mattresses. The Adopt-a-Cottage program provides the sponsors a special opportunity to not only support Kurn Hattin, but also have fun and spend time getting to know the children.

Fit Body Boot Camp Treats Kurn Hattin Homes

Lisa Dumont owner of Fit Body Boot Camp presented a check for $600 which she raised at her gym in Westminster, Vermont for the Kurn Hattin children to enjoy ice cream sundaes at Dari Joy in Bellows Falls. Thinking ahead, Co-Assistant Residential Director Carol Bazin contacted Dari Joy and placed the children’s specific orders ahead of time. When the children arrived in bus loads, the distribution of sundaes went quickly and smoothly. Pictured accepting the donation are Kurn Hattin Executive Director Stephen Harrison, Residential Co-Director Carol Bazin, and Fit Body Boot Camp owner, Lisa Dumont, and some of the children waiting for their sundaes.

Messages of Hope and Compassion

The children at Kurn Hattin Homes have inspiration in an unlikely place. Thanks to the hard work and generosity of Leadership Southeastern Vermont (LSEVT), the restroom doors in the Kurn Hattin school now have wonderful reminders of kindness and self-worth.
