Nothing quite compares to the sweet smell of bubbling maple syrup inside a sugar house! Children of all ages are able to have this classic New England experience at Kurn Hattin Homes. An even bigger treat is the sample of golden syrup that each child gets to taste after they learn about the process of maple sugaring from Director of Farm and Fleet at Kurn Hattin Real Bazin.
Winter Activities Awards at Kurn Hattin Homes
The Kurn Hattin Homes children are active playing sports, working with the horses, and trying new activities all across the campus. The wintertime is no exception; the children spend their time after school in extracurricular activities. The programs offered give not only a time to exercise and play, but also an opportunity to build teamwork skills, develop personal resilience, and practice time management.
Fundraising, Music, and Sports Fill Weekend at Kurn Hattin Homes
It was a very active weekend for the children at Kurn Hattin Homes.
On Saturday, February 3rd , a group of Kurn Hattin eighth-grade students sold home-made baked goods at the Hartford, VT rest area on I-91 South. The 8th graders raised over $200 which will go toward funding their class trip in March. We are very proud of the students’ hard work and dedicated fundraising efforts.
Kurn Hattin Welcomes Inspirational Guest
Exploration of diversity continued on January 29th at Kurn Hattin Homes for Children with Mr. Jack Pratt sharing his experience working with the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He explained how Dr. King was called to action in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955 to lead the Civil Rights Movement, and then answered the children’s questions about segregation, boycotts, and race-relations in the southern states.
Diversity Celebrated at Kurn Hattin Homes
The children and staff at Kurn Hattin Homes are celebrating Diversity Month. The month is filled with opportunities to learn about world cultures, and to acknowledge the personal experiences of people from backgrounds different from one’s own. “Due to the diversity of the children at Kurn Hattin Homes, we are pleased to affirm our dedication to the exploration of identity and the celebration of difference.” said Sue Kessler, Director of Admissions.
