The Connection: Fall 2015

August 27, 2015

8th Grade Corner

Dear 8th Grade Families,

The time has come! This is your child’s 8th grade year, and we are sure you feel time has flown by. This letter officially begins our efforts to help your family transition to high school. Although only one of you will be wearing a cap and gown and walking across the stage in June, all members of your family will experience a change in how you live.

Some of our students will come home and attend a public high school. This means getting used to living all together again, figuring out school bus schedules, adjusting to a new school with different schedules, new people, social events, and sport programs.

Other students will go to another residential school. Different surroundings, new people, and new activities will also challenge these students. Their families will be working out issues of transportation and keeping in touch with their students.

Whichever path you take, we will give you the information and support to help you in any way we can.

This process of planning has already begun for your student. On September 10th and 11th we will be taking the Class of 2016 on a retreat. This annual event builds class spirit and unity, and begins the work of setting goals for the future.

On Saturday, September 19th, during the Fall Family Festival, there will be a mandatory 8th Grade Family Meeting. There, we will meet with you and your students to share ideas about this year’s transition.  In addition, we will also provide some printed information and a timeline that will help you over the course of the year.

There will also be soccer games in the morning, family activities throughout the day, and an Open House at the school for you to see what your child is learning in their classes.

If you know you will be unable to make the meeting, please contact me as soon as possible, and we will send you information and let you know what you missed.

As always, please call if you have questions, concerns, ideas, or just want to talk about your child leaving Kurn Hattin. We will do all we can do make this as smooth of a transition as possible. We hope to see you on September 19th!

Warmly,

Ms. Tenielle
