Windham Orchestra and Kurn Hattin Homes for Children Present Collaborative Works in Westminster, VT November 1

WESTMINSTER, VT—On November 1, 2013 at 7:30 PM, Maestro Hugh Keelan and the Windham Orchestra, along with students from Kurn Hattin Homes for Children, present Resounding Hills: A Transformative Musical Collaboration. This concert takes place at Kurn Hattin Homes’ Higbie auditorium and is open to the public. Admission is by donation at the door.

This Westminster performance, which follows the opening of the Windham Orchestra’s 44th season in Brattleboro, VT on October 27th, showcases the spirit of mentorship and collaboration, as well as the musical talent in the local community. The partnership was sparked when Keelan visited Kurn Hattin Homes last year and met with the school’s music program director, Lisa Bianconi. “Hugh and I discussed a collaborative effort that would allow our students exposure to different kinds of music,” Bianconi said. “This concert is about transformation; the orchestra is embracing our students, and our students are embracing them, combining our two worlds to create beautiful music. After the last note is played, we want the audience and the performers to be in awe and want more. ”

The concert features a blend of instrumental and choral pieces, specially arranged by Keelan for the collaboration. “From ‘Amazing Grace’ to Tchaikovsky, via JS Bach, to an original composition by the 1844 postmaster of Brattleboro, we promise to deliver an extraordinary and enriching experience,” Keelan said. “The staff at Kurn Hattin is extremely welcoming and open to partnership. It’s inspiring to see the love of music and performance in the children. The Windham Orchestra is delighted to join forces with them, and to perform alongside them in their hall.”
